The Studierendenwerk Paderborn is one of 12 Studierendenwerks in North Rhine-Westphalia. Nationally, 58 Studentenwerke and Studierendenwerks are members of the „Deutsches Studentenwerk“ (DSW).
The Studentenwerke and Studierendenwerk are modern service providers with a social mission. They contribute to and support the social needs of a university.
On the campus of the University of Paderborn and the Hamm and Lippstadt College, we employ 262 professionals to offer high-quality service and counseling in our dining facilities, student financial aid office, housing office, office for the promotion of culture, and day care centers.
Students can get help regarding housing and financial aid- BAföG from our Service Point located on the ground floor.
The administrative building (left) of the Studierendenwerk Paderborn is located at Mersinweg 2, 33100, Paderborn. The Boardinghouse Campus Lounge, with 27 serviced apartments, is located next door (right).
The federal financial aid office (Amt für Ausbilderungsförderung) is also located in the administrative building.
The Studierendenwerk operates the Mensa Academia, the Mensa Forum, the restaurant Mensula (a training institution for prospective cooks), the Caféte – an important meeting place for breaks – the One Way Snack where you can quickly get snacks to go and the Grill|Café that has a stage where students can perform. The Bistro Hotspot, located off-campus in the Fürstenallee, is not only special because of its location. Here, the offers of the Mensa and the Caféte are combined in a modern facility to supply the students and the staff of the off-campus HNI, the guests of the museum of the Heinz-Nixdorf-MuseumsForum and also provide food services for the companies of the innovative project Zukunftsmeile.
The Mensa Basilica in Hamm and the Mensa Atrium in Lippstadt also offer a combination of Mensa and cafeteria meals. Here, we offer breakfast, dinner and delicious snacks and drinks.
Our food services are open to students, staff members at the HSHL and guests.
One of the key concepts of the residential communities is the development of social skills. Our competent staff, at the housing office, carefully selects roommates to promote a better mix of undergraduate and graduate students and also to encourage cultural integration, which leads to the internationalization of the university.
The rent includes all utilities.
The Financial Aid Office advises and assists students in applying for not only federal financial aid (BAföG), but also for student loans.

Promotion of cultur / International Relations
The promotion of culture by the Studierendenwerk Paderborn primarily fulfills a social function. The aim is to initiate and maintain the communication between the different institutions of the University of Paderborn and the city of Paderborn.
The establishment of a European wide university system, the globalization of the universities and the thereby the globalization of the bachelor and master degree programs all mean one thing: the need to make the integration of foreign students at European universities as easy as possible.
The Studierendenwerk supports this where possible.
The lawmakers demand from the Studierendenwerks that they earn the majority of their income on their own (60% in Paderborn). Therefore, the Studierendenwerk law in NRW has been changed so that Studierendenwerks may take part in other companies or found new ones. In line with the law, the Studierendenwerk Paderborn is a private company with its subsidiary Tectum GmbH, which offers services in a Boardinghouse with 27 serviced apartments.
